About Us

Linda and Denis Dineen emigrated to Canada from the U.K. in 2000, where Denis continued his career in the food industry, having worked for Tesco and St. Merryn Meats, in the U.K. Shortly after moving from Ontario to Nova Scotia in 2008, Denis and Linda recognized a demand for traditional British foods in the Halifax area, both from the ex-pat community and from many Canadians who may have experienced the British lifestyle through relatives, or having lived in the U.K. The dream of opening a deli/cafe started to crystallize and was fully realized when Delish Fine Foods opened for business in May 2010, in Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia.

Delish Fine Foods carries a broad range of imported British and European packaged products on its store shelves, adding seasonal items e.g. for Easter and Christmas.

In the deli section, cold meats, cheeses and certified Angus Beef steaks are featured. As are Cumberland Sausages and Bacon, both made locally to traditional British recipes.

Delish’s speciality, however, is homemade British pies and other British “delicacies”, which are all made in the store using traditional recipes and ingredients. Meat pies include Steak & Kidney, Chicken & Vegetable, Scotch Pies and many more. Cornish Pasties, Sausage Rolls, Pork Pies and Scotch Eggs are also cooked in the store’s kitchen. For entrees to go we have Bangers and Mash, Cottage Pie and Liver, Bacon and Onions. Not to be outdone, dessert treats are also available e.g. Apple and Rhubarb & Strawberry pies and crumbles and Bread Pudding.

The pies are available freshly cooked to eat in or take home. Also available are made-to-order sandwiches, homemade soups and freshly-brewed tea and coffee. You can even enjoy our famous Eccles cakes with your London Cuppa.

When recently asked how the experience has been Denis said "We have seen fantastic growth, both in sales and the range of products that we carry, since we opened for business in 2010. We constantly focus on meeting our customers’ needs and source new products as they are demanded. Our customers have been wonderful, both in repeat visits and in the important word-of-mouth recommendations, that have really contributed to our growth. We also couldn’t have achieved what we have without the wonderful work of our staff and family, many of whom are British themselves. Thanks to everyone for their incredible support”.
